Oyster Week is from September 11 – 28, 2014 and this year it’s going to be bigger than ever! Needless to say, we’re psyched!
Chalk full of unique signature events, Oyster Week provides ample opportunities to learn about and try a variety of oysters. Head to Brooklyn for the first annual Brooklyn Oyster Riot on September 11th where famed oyster shuckers, oyster farmers and foragers showcase some of the tastiest oysters in the U.S.
We’re also looking forward to OystoberFest on Friday October 19. OystoberFest (we love the name) is for the oyster and craft beer aficionado with over 16 craft beers and dozens of different oysters to sample. On September 20, the oyster fun continues with the 12th Annual Stone Street Oyster Festival! Expect 35,000 Oysters to be served to the nearly 10,000 guests in attendance.
Oyster Week is all about amazing deals on oysters so we think it’s fitting to highlight our favorite oyster spots around the city.
One of our favorites is Aqua Grill. Aqua Grill (210 Spring St.) knows seafood. The Oyster Bar at Aqua Grill consistently ranks in the top 10 list for a reason. Going with a group? Get the oyster sampler which serves oysters from both the east coast and the west coast. They also have a fantastic array of fish prepared in a variety of styles and we love their crab claws! For no thrills lobster eating fun, check out Upstate (95 First Avenue); they don’t take reservations so be prepared for long weekend waits. Upstate’s excellent craft beer selection is a fun compliment to the oysters and they offer happy hour specials from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. which includes 6 oysters and craft beers for $12 — you can’t beat that. Arguably the most well-known NYC Oyster bar is the Grand Central Oyster Bar (89 East 42nd Street). Iconic location plus fantastic people watching make this a no-brainer.
