The slow turn of the season marks an excellent time for the annual NYC Half Marathon, sponsored by United Airlines. Taking place on Sunday, March 15th, the 13.1-mile road race is at capacity but remains open to runners who raise money for a charity. The race has categories for men, women, charity, marathon qualifiers, prize money and more.
With so much for runners to look forward to, everyone who attends the race in March will be able to enjoy the electric atmosphere along the route. The half marathon begins on East Drive in Central Park, which is about as classic a New York City location as there is. Runners will then be guided out of the park and through Times Square. Whether you’re running or supporting a loved one as they complete the, or just out enjoying the event, be sure to snap a few photos of the runners with Times Square’s iconic billboards and video screens in the background. Runners will then end up on the more serene and absolutely gorgeous West Side Highway then ultimately finish at Wall Street.
The excitement of a race with New York City as its backdrop is only one of the many reasons we’re looking forward to the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half. The race’s new auxiliary event — the Times Square Kids’ Run — promises to be super cute and a great time for families. The first installment of the Kids’ Run will take place during the half marathon. The event, which will be broken up into three groups — 7-10 years old, 11-13 years old, and 14-18 years old — will give kids a chance to race 1500 meters through the heart of Times Square.
Marking an exciting beginning to the spring season, the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half is one of our most exciting upcoming events. If you’re into running, or you’re looking for things to do with kids in New York City, or you want to check out the scene, check out the race route online and go check it out!
