New York City has an incomparably storied history of creating and celebrating world-class poetry. One of the main sources of the city’s tradition is The Poetry Project, an organization that hosts the annual New Year’s Day Marathon Benefit Reading as its main source of fundraising for the year.
Featuring more than 140 poets, the Marathon Benefit Reading runs for 12 straight hours, complemented by, raffles, book sales, and food from local favorites S’Mac, Veselka and others. Those in the city over the New Year should check out this notable event, which offers an opportunity to contribute to something great and to enjoy the work of some of New York’s most renowned poets.
