The artful neighborhood of Tribeca and the Duane Street Hotel are excitedly awaiting the city’s premier international contemporary art fair, Frieze New York. The annual exhibition promises to impress on all fronts when it returns for another installment this May. Nearly 200 of the world’s leading art galleries will be represented at the fair, set on Randall’s Island.
Unlike many art fairs, where the works take us back in time many decades, or even centuries, Frieze New York remains focused on contemporary works created by living and relevant artists. The galleries involved are at the forefront of the global art scene, representing artists who are masters of their medium, from street art to fine art and even sound.
This year, the fair will return to the familiar bespoke structure that accents the displayed work with carefully manipulated natural light.
The carefully-selected artists featured at Frieze New York have been commissioned to create pieces specifically for the fair. In addition to the works on display, the event will include Frieze Talks: a series of lectures and panel discussions from sought-after intellectuals in the art world.
New this year is the Sounds program, spotlighting three unique masterpieces that explore noise as art. Visitors will be able to experience these works in the luxury of a BMW 7 Series.
With so many programs and works set for the Frieze Fair, the event promises to be an impressive display of creativity. While exploring the evocative pieces appointed to Frieze, attendees can also enjoy New York City’s mild May weather and views of the East River. For more information visit the event website here.
