Would you believe that a dip in the Atlantic is great for a post-New Year’s hangover? Even if you don’t buy it, cheering those brave enough to take the plunge will definitely stir you from your stupor. Grab a large hot coffee and join The Coney Island Polar Bear Club’s annual New Year’s Day Swim where hundreds of swimmers venture out into the icy ocean. All that’s required to take part in this courageous (or crazy?) tradition are warm clothes, shoes you don’t mind ruining and the chutzpah to actually go through with it. Have fun for a great cause, and meet local New Yorkers who have been doing this for years.
