Crowd at Concert

Countless world-class performing arts events come to New York City throughout the calendar year. From Broadway shows to recitals by the New York Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic, to a wide variety of pop performances at Madison Square Garden or the new Barclays Center, there are too many shows to keep track of in this sleepless city.

But throughout the long, brutal winter and drizzly spring, it’s the city’s outdoor summer concerts that New Yorkers look forward to most. With warm weather now upon us, it’s time to embrace the long summer days and celebrate New York City’s most anticipated al fresco performances.

Meghan Trainor at Pier 97

Last summer, soulful songstress Meghan Trainor had the whole world saying, “I got that boom boom.” She’ll make headlines again this year with her own MTrain Tour. After taking on most major North American destinations, Meghan Trainor will bring that bass to one of New York’s most renowned outdoor music venues, Pier 97. Other major acts playing at the pier on the Hudson River this summer include Primus, Sublime with Rome, Peter Frampton, and Cheap Trick.

Governor’s Ball

New York City’s popular summer music festival is returning to Governor’s Island this June. The annual two-day music fest features an array of big name acts, as well as food from some of the city’s most sought-after vendors. This year’s lineup includes headlining acts such as Drake, Florence + The Machine, and My Morning Jacket. From hip-hop to pop, house, and rock, everyone from Deadmau5  and Ryan Adams fans to Bjork and Lana Del Rey admirers will find something to enjoy.

The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series

The world-renowned New York City Metropolitan Opera will bring their powerful sound to some of the Big Apple’s favorite outdoor venues this summer. Catch them at your local park, or trace their circuit around the city. The Metropolitan Opera will make an appearance at Central Park on June 15th, at Queensbridge Park on June 24th, and at the Jackie Robinson Park on June 26th.

Celebrate Brooklyn!

Every summer, BRIC Arts and puts on the Celebrate Brooklyn! concert series, which boasts free concerts and benefit shows at the Prospect Park Bandshell. This year’s summer-long outdoor music celebration will kick off with the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan. Other major acts playing Celebrate Brooklyn! this summer include Interpol, Modest Mouse, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Willie Nelson & Family, and Old Crow Medicine Show.
