jazz festival

There’s a certain romantic ideal that often pops up in literature, film, and the imaginations of New York City visitors: Wandering the streets of Manhattan and unknowingly stumbling into a cool, dark underground jazz bar.

In a city filled with notable bars and acclaimed musicians, we’ve had the pleasure of stumbling upon performances by great, unheard-of acts for decades. We’ve even been inspired to create the scene at the Duane Street Hotel with live jazz each Wednesday night during our complimentary manager’s happy hour.

While it’s nice for travelers to discover these hidden gems, it can be difficult. Therefore, we’ve decided to map out a custom jazz crawl in one of our favorite Manhattan neighborhoods — Greenwich Village.

North Square

Start your day of jazz in Greenwich Village off early with North Square Lounge’s Sunday jazz brunch. Combining two of the city’s most appealing traditions — live music and brunch — North Square attracts great musicians and serves delicious food week after week. Every Sunday, the bar features one show at 12:30 p.m. and another at 2:15 p.m. in the venue’s jazz room.

Blue Note

Blue Note is one of the best-known and beloved jazz clubs in Greenwich Village and Manhattan. A true jazz location with former performers like Dizzy Gillespie and Tito Puente combine with the venue’s three-plus decades of satisfied patrons to create Blue Note’s great reputation. As the bar continues to draw household names along with the leading musicians in the contemporary jazz world, Blue Note is worth the visit for any musically inclined or curious visitors of New York City.

Analogue

Analogue is a craft cocktail bar that lives for the nostalgia of record players and live jazz. The bar’s focus is on creating an easy and inviting environment fueled by creative cocktails, fine whiskey and craft beers. Self-identified as a jazz club, they feature weekly live acts that are easy to enjoy with open seating and no cover charge. Analogue is the perfect place to wrap up your Greenwich Village jazz crawl with easy listening, good conversation, and a stiff drink.
