Just because you’re on the road doesn’t mean you should leave your workout routine behind. There are plenty of ways to stay fit while you’re staying in NYC. Here’s where to exercise while you’re traveling in Manhattan.
Only a couple blocks from the Duane Street Hotel, Hudson River Park is the place to go if you like to workout outdoors. If running is your thing, the park’s path stretches northward all the way to the George Washington Bridge. You can also take part in Healthy on the Hudson—a series of free outdoor fitness classes every Tuesday and Wednesday on Pier 46 all summer long.

If you want to workout like a New Yorker, check out The Dogpound—the no nonsense Soho gym with a cult-like following. While it isn’t cheap (group classes start at $42 and a private hour-long session with the owner will set you back a cool $500) it has a reputation for having some of the best trainers and training regimens in the city.

Blink is the smaller, more down to earth cousin of fitness giant Equinox and offers a fantastic gym experience at a fraction of the cost. Take advantage of the free one-day trial policy at the branch on nearby Nassau Street in the Financial District and pop in for strength training on the bench press or cardio on the stairmaster. If business bring you to NYC often, you might consider getting a membership—at $25 per month it’s one of the best bargains in the city.

Take note from locals and get a morning run with a view. Before 9am the High Line is essentially deserted—which makes it the perfect place to start the day. The repurposed train track is one and a half miles each way and you’ll hardly realize you just ran three miles as some of the world’s most innovative architecture and picturesque views of the city distract you.
