The Cronut is a craze that’s swept the US and has left many asking the fundamental question of “what is a Cronut exactly?”. A Cronut is a term trademarked by New York based pastry Chef Dominique Ansel owner of the Dominique Ansel bakery based in Soho. The Cronut is a hybrid of a croissant and a donut and was first unveiled on May 10, 2013. Word spread like wildfire that this new culinary craze was divine and there soon grew a black market for cronuts (as evidence by those reselling Cronuts on craigslist for prices often as high as $100 each). “Cronut” clones are popping up around the country and we’re convinced that this has single handedly replaced the aging cupcake trend. So go ahead…see for yourself and tell us does a cronut really taste like (as one rave review put it) “a taste of heaven”?
