NEW YORK CITY - APRIL 17: Union Square April 17, 2013 in New York, NY. The Commissioners' Plan of 1811 created such an awkward angle at the location that a square was preferred over buildings.

So far, so good: warm weather is blessing New York City early this year, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it carries straight through the spring. Sunny days permitting, here are seven reasons we’re excited for spring in NYC.

Visits to the South Street Seaport

Just a ten-minute walk from the Duane Street Hotel, the South Street Seaport is one Downtown’s best warm-weather attractions. Cups of joe from Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee, lunch at Ambrose Beer & Lobster, and strolls along the water and under the Brooklyn Bridge all make it worth a visit.

Mets and Yankees Games

Whether you’re headed to Queens to see the National League Champions or the Bronx to see baseball’s winningest franchise of all time, baseball in NYC is an experience. Both teams’ stadiums are easily accessible by subway from the Duane Street Hotel.

The moment people can stand being outside for more than two seconds at a time, they start throwing outdoor festivals. We have plenty to look forward this spring, including the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival, Frieze New York. There’s also our favorite indoor gathering, the Tribeca Film Festival.

Rooftop Openings

Rooftops are kind of a thing in New York City, and plenty of them are opening up this spring. There are a number of these hangouts Downtown and throughout the rest of Manhattan, but for an ultimate, secluded experience, book an event at Tribeca Rooftop.

Hanging Out in Battery Park City

At the southern tip of Manhattan and just a short walk from the Duane Street Hotel, Battery Park is one of the city’s most breathtaking parks. Sit out on the grass, visit the new seaglass carousel, and enjoy the views over New York Harbor to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Going Out on the Water

There are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water this spring. Just walk to the Seaport or number of piers within walking distance of the Duane Street Hotel for a free ride to Brooklyn, or romantic sunset sail. From Battery Park, you can take the Staten Island Ferry or a boat tour to Ellis and Liberty islands.

Biking Manhattan

Whether you want to cruise the Brooklyn Bridge, or head Uptown, there are so many places to explore from the Duane Street Hotel. Borrow one of our complimentary bicycles and get cruising!
