This May, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series racing is stopping by New York City as a lead up to the actual Cup in Bermuda next June. From watching practice runs and actual races, to schmoozing around the neighborhood in between all the fun, here are five ways to celebrate America’s Cup weekend in NYC.
Bring a Picnic to the Battery Park City Esplanade
This gorgeous stretch of waterfront will be the premier vantage point for onlookers to enjoy America’s Cup races. Grab a breakfast sandwich from local deli Zucker’s Bagels or falafel from Nish Nush on your way from Duane Street to the event.
See Some Sights
The America’s Cup will feature practice races on Friday, with point-scoring races on Saturday and Sunday. In between, take a stroll to one of the many nearby attractions like the Freedom Tower, Wall Street and the gorgeous Irish Hunger Memorial.
Take in the Scene from Up Above
After spending a day watching the races from the ground, consider a splurge where you can see the boats and city from a bird’s eye view. There are plenty of options around town and the Hudson, but our favorite has to be Liberty Helicopter, which offers specials and packages for the whole family.
Treat Yourself at Brookfield Place
Brookfield Place is a nearby destination perfect for America’s Cup weekend shopping. Hit up Michael Kors to prep your own sailing outfit or stop by Lululemon for something cozy and sporty to wear when attending the America’s Cup race in New York City.
Stop By the Duane Street Hotel
Whether you’re staying with us, or are in the neighborhood, Duane Street Hotel will be a convenient and distinct spot to hang out during America’s Cup weekend. Grab a guestroom, or enjoy a cocktail around the corner at Ward III on your way to and from the festivities. We are located just one mile from where the race takes place in Battery Park.
