With so much world class entertainment to suggest to our guests, nothing stands out quite like all-star comedy group The Upright Citizens Brigade. Here are five reasons why you need to check out a show during your stay in New York City.

Best Improv in Town

While New York City is an iconic comedy destination, it’s most well known spots—Comedy Cellar, Caroline’s on Broadway, Gotham Comedy Club—are mostly standup-centric. Committed to improv first and foremost, UCB offers a rich pool of creative performances that strike a unique chord with first-time audience members.

The Talent

When you run through the roster of former UCB members, the names speak for themselves. From one of the troupe’s co-founders, Amy Poehler, to her counterpart TIna Fey, Nick Kroll, Zach Galifianakis, Janeane Garofalo and many more. Well known stars performing in New York now include Broad City’s Ilana Glazer,  and 30 Rock’s Scott Adsit and members of Saturday Night Live like Kate McKinnon, and Bobby Moynihan.

A source for some of the best entertainment in town, the Upright Citizens Brigade also offers some of the most affordable. Many of its shows cost as little as $5 to attend, just be sure to show up early, as they also tend to run on a first-come, first serve basis.

Weekly Institutions

Putting on a variety of shows every week, UCB is famous for its recurring programs that take on a life of their own. Asscat 3000 occurs every Sunday night, and is famous for featuring surprise guests like Amy Poehler. Another weekly institution to check out is The Doppelganger, which takes place on Tuesdays and stars SNL’s Sasheer Zamata.

Where the Shows Are

Each of UCB’s two Manhattan locations are in the heart of some of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. The East Village Location is a walk away from countless acclaimed restaurants in Alphabet City and popular attractions like St. Mark’s and Union Square. The Chelsea theater is within walking distance of the High Line, Hudson Yards and the Empire State Building.
